Mike Burns has been a fixture in the gymnastics community here in Minnesota since his arrival in October of 2004. He was the head coach for the University of Minnesota  Men’s  Gymnastics program for 17 years until it was discontinued.

Mike Burns is a respected leader in the world of gymnastics, known for his unwavering passion, integrity, and dedication to athlete development at all levels. As the former head coach of the University of Minnesota men’s gymnastics team, Mike led the Gophers through nearly two decades of competitive success, fostering a legacy of excellence, resilience, and sportsmanship.

After the unfortunate discontinuation of the varsity program, Mike’s commitment to the sport and its athletes never wavered. He now leads the Minnesota Men’s Gymnastics GymACT program, providing high-level training and competitive opportunities for college-age gymnasts determined to continue their careers. Under his leadership, the program has flourished, offering a critical platform for athletic and personal growth.

True to his positive spirit and forward-thinking vision, Mike also helped launch Foundation Gymnastics—a new, state-of-the-art facility that not only supports the GymACT team but also opens the door for youth in the community to discover and develop gymnastics skills. Through Foundation Gymnastics, Mike continues to inspire the next generation, ensuring that the values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance remain central to the sport in Minnesota.
